This live blog will bring the results as they happen.

The votes are being counted at Rivermead Leisure Centre in Richfield Avenue, and the verdict will be known in the early hours of Friday, May 5.

In all seats bar one, people are being asked to choose a single councillor. In Park ward there is an additional byelection, so voters have to elect two councillors. In this contest, the two councillors with the highest vote share will win the seats.

Polls close at 10pm, and the ballot boxes will then be taken, securely, to Rivermead. Tellers will then verify the ballots before the formal count gets underway.

The returning officer will announce results when they are ready, but may not necessarily be in alphabetical order.

Our live blog will bring you news, reaction and incident throughout the night.
