The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) brings people together to create, improve and care for green spaces.
From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest; from school grounds and hospital grounds to waterways, wetlands and woodlands; they connect people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community.
They are seeking more conservation volunteers to join their outdoor work.
Currently, they have available opportunities at three different sites.
If you are interested in taking care of the local environment and have a keen interest in gardening below are the available sites where it would appreciate more volunteer help:
In the Reading area, the Biodiversity Action Team is involved in a long-term project in Sindlesham. They are removing invasive rhododendrons on Thursdays.
In Earley, they run a gardening morning once a month on Saturdays at St Nic’s Community Centre.
They also run a team near Fleet on Tuesdays on another National Grid site clearing areas for paths, a wildflower meadow and coppicing.
Thames Hospice have been proudly serving our community for more than 30 years.
They offer world-class palliative and end-of-life care and support to people aged 16 and over across East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire.
Right now they are seeking volunteers to help in three of their local stores – Caversham, Henley and Woodley.
Tasks would include helping on the shop floor and additionally sorting, pricing and tagging in the back.
Shifts are typically four hours, but they are flexible and regularity.
You can even pop into the shop to do a taster session before you sign up as a volunteer too.
Berkshire Women’s Aid is an organisation that provides support and advocacy to anyone that comes to them experiencing domestic abuse.
BWA offers a range of group work programmes for adults and children, which are designed to provide a supportive, safe and non-judgmental environment for those who have experienced domestic abuse. They are looking for volunteers to join and assist the lead facilitators with setting up and running the groups.
The group work aims to help survivors explore their experiences, build resilience and access peer support, so volunteers must be approachable, relaxed and have great communication skills.
