Sight loss can take away independence and confidence, and leave those affected isolated. Berkshire Vision supports hundreds of blind and partially sighted children and adults, helping them to live their lives to the full.
They offer a busy sport and activities programme for their visually impaired Members and need volunteers to help. They are looking for volunteers to assist with: tandem cycling, football, golf, running, dragon boating, swimming, tennis and more.
There are also Members who love to socialise whether in the pub, the theatre or at special events. They are looking for volunteers to support and guide our members at these events and to join in the fun.
The time commitment varies and is very flexible as there are sports and activities happening all the time. Ideal volunteers will be friendly and willing to use their own sight to guide others. A cheerful disposition is a plus. You will need to be diligent, as they rely on our volunteers to turn up on time ready to support Members. Applicants need to be aged 18 or over
The Salvation Army are looking for a friendly person to serve refreshments/juice and biscuits to the parents and children who attend their Little Gems (parent and toddler group) on Thursdays.
You will be joining a friendly team to help and If you can do every week that would be great, however, if you can only do once or twice and month, they’d be glad of your help.
The ideal volunteer for this role will be friendly, kind and well organised, able work on their own initiative. although there will always be people nearby to help out.
Reading’s Older People’s Working Group is hosting Older People’s Day 2023 on Monday, October 2, at the Broad Street Mall.
The event will officially start at 9.30am and will run until 3pm.
They are seeking volunteers on the day to help with a range of tasks, including; helping with set up, welcoming visitors, promoting the event in the town centre, signposting visitors to the various information stalls and gathering survey feedback about the event.
No previous experience or specific skills necessary, just a friendly nature and good verbal communication skills.
