THE UNIVERSITY of Reading is to host a series of events as part of an international science festival next month.

Pint of Science, an annual three-day festival, is coming to Reading, bringing with it work from scientists and academics from around the world to bring their work to members of the public.

The festival also sees events taking place in 42 locations across the country, including in London, Oxford, and Bath, and as far as Dundee and Belfast.

It also sees events held in 27 countries around the world, including India, Thailand, the USA, and Australia.

Three events will take place at the university’s Whiteknights Campus, exploring archaeology, botany, and biology.

On Monday, May 19, the university will host Bugs, Bones, and Conservation Goals, which will examine how archaeological scientists are using the past to help us understand the modern world.

It will feature an exploration of how ancient DNA and diseases can help us understand the environmental issues we’re facing today as well as a special panel featuring inspiring women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

This is followed by Botany, Beams, and Things Unseen on Tuesday, which will explore how plants can solve problems and how radiation can open windows to our past.

The series will conclude at the university with Birds, Brains, and the Power of Change, which will explore the unexpected ways the brain adapts in adulthood and how the extinction of our largest freshwater bird could guide us toward a more sustainable existence with our environment.

Pint of Science is a grassroots, non-profit organisation which aims to provide a space for researchers to share their work with the public, engage the public with scientific study and theory.

It also allows institutions and organisers to showcase their work while also helping science communicators to hone their skills in engaging and dynamic ways.

Each event runs from 7.30pm-9.30pm from Monday-Wednesday, May 19-21.

More information about the festival is available via: pintofscience.co.uk

Tickets for each event are £5, available via: pintofscience.co.uk/events/reading
