THE UNIVERSITY of Reading is set to host a family event in aid of a charity supporting seriously ill children and their families this month.
The Rainbow Adventure trail is set to bring a funfair-themed event to campus in aid of Rainbow Trust, the University of Reading’s chosen Charity of the Year for the 2024/25 academic year.
Families will get the chance to enjoy a short walking route through the beautiful Whiteknights campus, encountering fairground-themed activity checkpoints along the way.
Participants will receive a Rainbow Adventure Trail map and collect stamps after completing challenges at each checkpoint.
The trail ends at the ‘Finishers’ Fun Zone’ where participants can claim their prizes and enjoy even more fun activities, including a bouncy castle.
The event will also features fairground favourites such as Splat the Rat, Tin Can Alley and a penalty shoot-out challenge, suitable for all ages.
Katherine Burgess, Corporate and Community Fundraising Manager at Rainbow Trust, said: “With the cost-of-living crisis and political uncertainty, times are exceptionally difficult for families caring for a seriously ill child.
“At Rainbow Trust, we pair these families with expert Family Support Workers who provide practical and emotional support to help them cope during incredibly challenging circumstances.
“This family-friendly event will help raise vital funds to support the work we do with families locally and across the UK.”
The Rainbow Adventure Trail takes place at the University of Reading Whiteknights Campus on Sunday, June 29.
Tickets can be bought online in advance, with timed slots beginning at 10am every 30 minutes; last entry is at 12.30pm.
Tickets available via: shop.rainbowtrust.org.uk

Marking its 40th anniversary in 2026, Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child aged 0-18 years with a life-threatening or terminal illness.
There are an estimated 86,000 children in England with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
Thousands of families have to face the very real possibility that their child may die and struggle to cope on a day-to-day basis.
Raimbow Trust’s Family Support Workers provide a lifeline to these families and children.
