AN ENVIRONMENTAL researcher fears Reading could face another heatwave this weekend.
According to University of Reading PhD student Helen Griffith, models for London and Reading have predicted above-average temperatures between July 29 and August 4.
Ms Griffith suggested temperatures could remain between the high 20s and 30s, adding it was too early to predict exact figures.
A heatwave is declared in London when temperatures reach 28 degrees celsius or above for three consecutive days.
This comes a week after the university announced a Reading heat record.
At noon on Tuesday, July 19, the meteorology department’s atmospheric observatory hit 36.5 degrees celsius, surpassing the previous record of 36.4 degrees celsius set in 2003.
Records have been kept since 1908.
