Noel Hunt’s Reading FC side have been described as a side who ‘aren’t particularly well coached’ by a popular EFL football podcast.

The Royals have endured a difficult start to their League One campaign and currently sit in 21st position after matches.

Reading have managed to pick up just one win which came against Port Vale, while they have lost four, the latest of which came in a 3-2 defeat at Barnsley on Saturday.

Reading fans were hoping for a fresh start under the new ownership of Rob Couhig, but so far results have not paid off on the pitch under Hunt’s management.

Speaking on the ‘Not The Top 20’ podcast, hosts George Elek and Ali Maxwell discussed Reading’s tough start to the season.

They said: “Last season in the context of what was going on off the pitch you had to respect them for managing to find a way to get points on the board and challenge for play-offs given the unrest of the ownership of Dai Yongge.

“This year is different. They’ve got the new owners in and the expectations are higher and have recruited fairly heavily.

“They won against Port Vale given a moment of quality. Joel Pereira is a brilliant goalkeeper and a brilliant shot stopper but I don’t think a sustainable way to pick up points is to rely on the shot stopping ability of a great keeper and hope someone in the final third scores a banger.

“I’ve seen a good bit of analysis on Reading that says they are a bad team full of good players.

“That lends its weight to them having good players who can provide a moment of magic even if they aren’t particularly well coached.

“My assumption is that unless things change we will see a run like they had at the start of the season which will see Noel Hunt shown the door at some point and bring in a manager with more of a track record of building a decent side.

“I want to see them more from them as a cohesive attacking unit rather than relying on worldies from Wing.”

Reading are back in League One action when they host Leyton Orient on Saturday, September 20 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
