A THEATRE in Reading has been awarded funding to make much-needed upgrades to its theatre space following a donation from a charity.
Progress Theatre has announced that it has secured a grant from The Earley Charity to replace the roof of its auditorium.
The grant, totalling £14,5000, will be used to replace the roof, which the theatre explains is in need of replacement due to the age of the building.
The new roof will also reduce the energy consumption of the theatre, as part of its aims to reduce its environmental impact.
Following the securing of the grant, Progress has announced that it plans to begin work to replace the roof in August, aiming to have the project concluded by autumn.
Progress Theatre said: “We thank The Earley Charity for this very generous and vital funding which will enable all the work we do to continue.
“We can’t thank The Earley Charity enough.”
The Earley Charity is a grant-making charity which has supported organisations in earley and east Reading for over 300 years.
It has a particular focus on equipment to support older people, families on low incomes, those unable to work due to health issues, and newly-housed people.
Young people leaving care from either Reading Borough Council or Wokingham Borough Council can also apply for a grant of up to £1,000 to buy essential household items and appliances to support their move to independent living.
