THE Reading Symphony Orchestra is back in action this weekend with its summer concert.
The evening of music will be held at Reading Minster Church in Chain Street from 7pm on Saturday.
The programme opens with a piece inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing: Beatrice et Benedict: Overture” by Hector Berlioz. A spokesperson for the orchestra said the piece will set a cheerful and energetic tone for the concert.
They continued: “We’re hugely lucky to be joined by Charlie Lovell-Jones for the Brahms Violin Concerto for this concert. They are one of Britain’s most high-profile young violin soloists, who also leads John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London.
“The Sinfonia of London made its debut at the Proms in 2021, and comprises top-tier musicians, including principals and leaders from various UK and international orchestras.
“Charlie himself made his Royal Festival Hall debut aged 15, was a finalist in the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition, has appeared as soloist with many orchestras in the UK and overseas, and has already made numerous recordings.
“He most recently studied with Augustin Hadelich in Yale and plays on a 1777 Guadagnini violin”.
The evening concludes with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 4 in D minor.
The spokesperson said: “This symphony is admired for its continuous flow and rich orchestration, providing a fitting end to our programme.”
The orchestra will be conducted by Cathal Garvey.
Tickets cost £15, and £5 for students and under 18s.
