IT APPEARS that the Ding has a thing for the gym.
New research shows that the town has 17.47 gyms per 100,000 residents. Or, in plainer English, there are 45 fitness facilities and 257,653 residents in the greater Reading area.
That puts us in 17th place in a league table of the cities (and towns) with the most gyms per capita in the UK.
The report has been compiled by DealsDaddy. They took data from Companies House for all fitness facilities from the 55 most populated places in the country. They used this to create a heatmap, showing just how much we value a healthy lifestyle.
The town of Preston is the UK fitness capital with 36 gyms per 100,000 residents – more than double that of Reading.
Glasgow and Manchester follow in the second and third place with 29 and 26 fitness centres per 100,000 people
And while London is the place with the largest number of gyms (1,165) it ranks 33rd in terms of gyms per capita with 13 facilities per 100,000 residents
The place with the least gyms? That was Southend, with just 5.96 per 100,000 residents. Then again, they might not need it as they’re used to lifting all that seaside rock.
