A group of volunteers, who collected and delivered items vitally needed by the Ukrainians during their ongoing war with Russia, has been nominated for Community of the Year, sponsored by Hilton Reading.
Woodley Volunteers for Our Community began as a local community resource to help out during the covid crisis.
Comments from nominators included: “It started with food but now it has grown to everything.
“The community in Woodley have been a fantastic support and I am very proud to be a member to donate and support this group.”
Another nominator said: “This group has worked very hard to help local families and vulnerable people when they needed anything. No demand was too big. Over one million items were donated. It’s still going and helping whoever asks for help. Christmas and Easter goody bags distributed. Works with other local communities groups in the area too.”
The group’s leader, Ronnie Goodberry, was also mentioned with one nominator saying he had “worked tirelessly to help the vulnerable and anyone in need within the local community and didn’t stop there. Together with the community and his team’s help they have extended this kindness to aid the vulnerable in the Ukraine.”
Ronnie has also been nominated for the Community Champion award sponsored by Reading Football Club.
