Welcome All Award, Reading Refugee Support Group, sponsor Deloitte
A group which has helped refugees rebuild their lives in Reading for 30 years has been nominated for the new Welcome All Award, sponsored by Deloitte.
The award recognises ‘diversity and inclusiveness’, in Reading, as a welcoming town to all and as City of Sanctuary for 10 years and seeks nominations for businesses and organisations who are welcoming and supporting our town’s diverse communities.
A nominee wrote: “The Refugee Support Group’s vision is an inclusive society where refugees and people seeking asylum are treated with humanity, dignity and respect.”
The group, first established in Reading in 1994 “strives for a society where basic human needs are met, and where refugees can receive the support they need to play a role in their new community,” said the nominator.
“The dedicated team at the support group work tirelessly to provide help and support to all.”
With a base of volunteers, they provide information and knowledge to support refugees and asylum seekers, they said.
“Reading has been a City of Sanctuary for ten years and the support group acts as that first point of contact which is so vital.”
