The Green Community Award, Reading Tree Warden Network, sponsor Tomato Energy
The importance and benefits that trees will provide for Reading’s future cannot be underestimated and the Tree Warden Network in Reading champions the borough’s trees.
It is run in partnership with the Tree Council, Trees for Cities and Reading Borough Council, says its nominator for The Green Community Award, a new category in the Pride of Reading Awards, sponsored by Tomato Energy.
The Tree Warden Network is committed to raising the profile of Reading’s trees and working with partners and the wider community to achieve maximum effectiveness, they said.
Volunteer Tree Wardens have source funding for planting hundreds of trees across the borough, including street trees, new avenues in parks and commemorative trees.
The nominator said: “The wardens also believe that education around the importance of trees to our future is vital and organise walks and talks throughout the year. They truly do work to make Reading’s communities greener and therefore the air cleaner.”
The Green Community Award recognises communities that are making their neighbourhoods greener and cleaner; individuals, community groups and businesses that have implemented a project that has saved resources, implemented green initiatives or introduced successful recycling or upcycling.
Sponsor Tomato Energy aim to unite local communities to maximise the benefits of local sustainable energy and are dedicated to helping communities become more sustainable, environmentally friendly and self-sufficient.
