A “welcoming and supportive” choir who sang together right through the pandemic via Zoom are successful fundraisers too.
Now the Take Note Choir have been nominated for the Cultural Contribution award sponsored by M&G Real estate.
The choir, based in Tilehurst, has members from all over Reading, of all singing abilities and ages, said their nominator.
“I joined this choir two years ago and they were very welcoming and supportive, the best thing I have done for a long time,” they added.
Led by their musical director Derry Pope, of Derry Pope Singing and Teaching, they perform a wide range of songs from pop and rock, to ballads and musical theatre.
“They managed to keep going through the Covid pandemic via Zoom and even sang together, when allowed, with rehearsal room doors wide open in middle of winter,” the nominator added.
“When they perform, they don’t charge but are willing to help other raise charity funds.”
In the past year they have supported Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice Christmas Appeal at Reading train station, The Lions Club Christmas fundraising at Waitrose and Turn Tilehurst Red for Remembrance Day, as well as the Tilehurst Fundraising for Ukraine fund.
They have sung on the Forbury Gardens bandstand, in IKEA and in Sainsbury’s, all for free and on members’ own time.
The choir was invited to perform by Wesley Methodist Church as part of the church’s 150th anniversary celebrations, in aid of Action for Children, raising more than £1,000 all of which went to the charity.
