“Paty makes computer science look cool to the girls.”
So said Paty’s head of department at The Abbey School in Reading according to the teacher’s nominator for The Inspiration Award, sponsored by McDonald’s,
Her nominator added: “She is a very new teacher who has already made an incredible impact on computer science both within the school and the community.
“Paty is a Computer Games Ambassador and is now the lead teacher of the Digital Schoolhouse project in our school/region.
“Digital Schoolhouse aims to inspire more children to gain the skills required to work in the digital industries, especially the computer games industry.”
Paty works with schools, pupils, and teachers across Reading, supporting them with computer science knowledge and skills.
The nominator said Paty is especially interested in inspiring girls into tech and recently took a team from the school to 13th place in a cybersecurity competition.
“She is at the forefront of changing the way computer science is taught in schools to ensure more girls take up this important subject.
“This includes the use of social media to engage and inspire them, making the curriculum socially relevant and ensuring that the girls see themselves as computer scientists, with plenty of female role models to look up to.”
