Hospitality Award, The Fox and Hounds Tilehurst, sponsor Cream Design
A couple who have created a wonderful community pub “with marvellous hospitality” in just a few months have been put forward for the Pride of Reading Hospitality Award, sponsored by Cream Design.
Ian and Helen Hay, landlords at the Fox and Hounds in City Road, Tilehurst, have “transformed the pub and introduced wonderful home cooked food and regular events for every taste” one nominator said.
“Ian and Helen run the best pub in Reading in my humble opinion,” they continued.
“They have taken the pub to another level and have created an atmosphere that you just don’t find in other pubs.”
“The pub is now part of the ale trail which brings in people from all areas around Reading.
“They have transformed the garden as well and now it’s a lovely old fashioned traditional pub.”
They added: “My wife and I often take our grandchildren to the pub as they love the garden and the fizzy drinks. Overall, they have done a marvellous job and should be rewarded for bringing life back to the pub and the community that uses it.”
Another nominator said: “They have done so much work to the pub in a very short time and need to be recognised for all that they have achieved.”
The Hospitality Award is Inspired by and in memory of Hilary Scott, Reading Post journalist, food writer and organiser. It recognises excellence in the hospitality industry, either an individual or business that has shown resilience, outstanding dedication to their customers and a strong commitment to Reading.
It is sponsored by Cream Design, a longstanding partner of the Pride of Reading Awards, contributing design, planning and sponsorship.
