A myriad of social and fundraising events creating “an amazing community spirit” is the hallmark of a parent teacher association nominated for Community of the Year, sponsored by Hilton Reading.
Aldryngton Primary’s PTA “is a very active and diverse community,” said their nominator “but, not only have they raised money for the school, they also raise money other organisations like the NSPCC, Sports Aid, Children in Need and the Turkey/Syria earthquake disaster.
“It blows me away how fantastic this community comes together but also the different cultural events we have across the school year, from a Diwali event, Christmas Fayre to an Eid event in the summer,” they added.
“The community spirit is amazing.”
A school disco is held once a term. There is Wrap-a-Present where children can buy gifts for their friends and family, carol singing at Maiden Erlegh Lake, and ice lolly sales, which fund the year 6 leavers’ party;
“Eid fayre is a great summer event that brings our community together,” they added.
Pool club enables the school to maintain its own pool for the children to use to socialise with their friends.
Diwali Fayre gives the school community another chance to come together. A Try-a-Tri family fun day is where children compete in swimming, running and cycling races in teams of three.
There is also a Christmas Fayre with a Santa visit, an Easter egg hunt and pre-loved uniform sales which allows the re-use of good quality uniforms.
