THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following an incident of grievous bodily harm in Reading.
At around 10.50pm on Monday, March 27, the victim, a man in his forties, and a woman were walking along Stanshawe Road when they were approached by two men riding bikes.
As they were heading in the direction of The Gateway pub, the men dismounted the bikes and one of them assaulted the victim before leaving in the direction of Garrard Street.
He was left with a broken jaw which required hospital treatment, but has since been discharged.
A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said that a 44-year-old man from Reading has been charged in connection with the incident.
He has been with one count of assault by beating, one count of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress, one count of using threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm/distress, and a count of and wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on 12 April.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Sophie Connor, based at Reading police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened, or who has any information about the incident, to please come forward.
“This happened in the middle of the road at the back of the train station where there are known to be taxis and people waiting for taxis in the vicinity, therefore it is likely that someone may have seen what happened.
