Such a pretty piece,
A fair bargain
For a penny’s worth
Of scraped up detritus…
The pickings from off
A shingle beach –
All gleam and shine,
Salt water glazed, rolled
Up from the watery deeps,
Washed up and abandoned
To end up at my feet –
Added to the other pieces,
Gathered and confined
To some artifice
To please a curious mind.
