A BUSINESS in Reading has announced it has raised tens of thousands for a local charity.

Jacobs the Jewellers has raised more than £44,000 for the Royal Berks Charity, surpassing its fundraising target.

It comes after the launch of an appeal in partnership with the charity aimed at improving the patient experience in the cardiology department at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.

As well as generous donations and fundraising efforts, a donation from the British Allied Trade Federation meant that the campaign surpassed its goal of £39,000.

The appeal culminated at the Jacobs Summer Social on the 24th July, where a further £2,000 was raised with a quiz, raffle, auction, pay per play DJ and CPR training activity.

This made the final grand total over £44,200 on the night, with more to come as the last few fundraising activities are completed.

The funds raised will help transform the department, with new seating areas to improve the space and information screens that will make a big difference to patients and staff alike.

The sum over the target will further enhance the area with a state-of-the-art audio visual system for patients to enjoy.

Adam Jacobs, from Jacobs, said: “The Jacobs team are over the moon to have reached our fundraising goal.

“As an independent business in Reading, we genuinely care about our community and treasure the Royal Berkshire Hospital – as we know many of our loyal customers do too.

“We know patients will have a much better experience when the work is completed and it’s a real pleasure to be able to contribute.

“Our thanks to everyone who donated, fundraised, and got involved–and of course to all the incredible staff in the Cardiac team for everything they do.”

Jo Warrior, Charity Director at Royal Berks Charity, said: “This is such a wonderful moment. We’ve seen so many people get involved–from bake sales and a salsa charity event to local businesses pitching in–and every single effort has helped get us here.

“We’re so grateful to the Jacobs team and to everyone who played a part. It’s amazing what we can achieve together.”
