Reading FC fans have reacted positively after their new striker helped them to earn an important three points over Leyton Orient in League One.
Having endured a tough start to the campaign, Reading pulled themselves out of the drop zone with just their second league win of the season.
The win not only lifts Reading up the table, but alleviates some pressure on manager Noel Hunt after some fans have started to question his position.
Reading now move up to 20th place in the table on 8 points from their opening 8 games.
Liam Fraser netted the winner for the Royals, but it was Marriott who got them underway by putting them in front in the first-half.
Reading bought Marriott to the club from Wrexham for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal and he’s made a promising start to life in Berkshire.
He’s already netted two goals and has registered an assist in three League One appearances as he has helped to resolve the issue of a lack of goals at the start of the season. He also scored in the EFL Trophy and now has three goals to his name in just four matches.
Fans have reacted positively to Marriott’s performance, as well as another new signing Matt Ritchie, who played a vital role in Reading’s win over Orient.
One fan said: “Fantastic results today, Jack Marriott looks the business.”
Another said: “Thought Marriott did well again, another goal too even if it was poor goalkeeping. You could see how vocal Matt Ritchie was when he came on as well, a real leader, something we need more of, he’ll be a valuable asset.”
Another fan said: “For all the talk about needing a striker, we signed one and he’s exactly what we need. 3 starts 3 goals for Jack Marriott.”
Another added: “Marriott you beauty. Isn’t it nice to have a forward who scores consistent and is confident enough to take a shot.”
Reading are back in action in the EFL Cup on Tuesday when they travel to face Championship Wrexham before they visit Stockport in the league on Saturday.
