A FALSE alarm was sounded in Reading last week.
A crew from Whitley Wood Fire Station were dispatched to a block of flats on Bridge Street at 9.29am on Wednesday, March 6.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it is believed the alarm was activated by building works taking place.
The Service is currently consulting on how it responds to automatic fire alarms across the County, with a focus on shops, offices, leisure centres, colleges, sports grounds, libraries, schools and health centres.
It says 99% of alarms are false call-outs, which causes disruption to essential services and training.
The Service stresses it will continue to maintain an emergency response to 999 calls, confirmed fires and to automatic fire alarm notifications from residential homes.
The consultation will run until Monday, May 13, and can be completed at: rbfrs.co.uk/haveyoursay.
