The company that runs Florence House Care Home in Wescote Road, Southcote has applied to build a rear extension.
It would create space for eight assisted care bedrooms for clients.
Each would have an ensuite, with the planning agent saying there is a need for care beds for those with bariatric problems.
The extension would be built in the garden, with the care company also hoping to establish a sensory garden with the remaining space.
The application can be seen by logging on to Reading Borough Council’s planning website, searching for reference 240207.
