Double-Barrelled Brewery! – Well Hello September!

Well hello there, it’s nice to see you! Welcome to September’s expert column from Double-Barrelled – now, we won’t claim to be experts, but we certainly know our way around a pint of beer or two! We are Double-Barrelled, Tilehurst’s favourite family-owned microbrewery. Nestled in the corner of the Stadium Way industrial estate just off Portman Road we are your one stop hop shop for all things beer in the Ding.

Luci and Mike, co-founders

It may be September, but summer isn’t over just yet! Come and visit us at our Taproom where we serve the freshest Double-Barrelled beers all the way from Thursday evening through to Sunday afternoon. A Taproom, what’s that you ask? A Taproom is the beating heart of any craft brewery – an onsite bar and bottleshop where you can soak up the exciting atmosphere of the brewery, with only the freshest beers available.

Worried about food miles? Well we work in food metres – our beer takes the shortest journey possible, always staying brewery fresh. When we first opened the brewery in 2018 we knew that a Taproom would be essential – a hub for beer enthusiasts and the beer curious alike. So whether you’re looking to sample the latest hazy hop bomb, wanting to support a small local business, or if you fancy being in on Reading’s best kept secret – our friendly Taproom team is ready to welcome you!

The Taproom isn’t just about mouth-watering and tasty pints either (full disclosure, we love tasty pints), we host an exciting array of events too! From our bimonthly Indie Market celebrating Reading’s talented craft scene, to food pairings and cocktail classes, there’s always something happening. Take our new quiz night for example – forget those dreary lockdown era family Zoom quizzes – the pub quiz is back baby, and it’s never been better! Join us on Thursday 8th September where we’ve enlisted the titans of local trivia Gary and Mark (of the Nag’s Head fame) for a night of punderful team names, fresh beers and beery prizes.

And it doesn’t stop there either dear reader – how do you fancy taking a look around? Of course you do! Book onto one of our famous brewery tour and tasting sessions for an exclusive behind the scenes tour of our state-of-the-art brewhouse – learn about our beers, the specialist ingredients that make them so special, our processes and our ethos – in other words, what makes Double-Barrelled, Double-Barrelled! All of course rounded off with a tutored tasting of our beers to put that newly gained knowledge to work! Head on over to www.doublebarrelled.co.uk/tours to book.
