Berkeley Homes has submitted revised plans to build 209 homes at the former SSE site in Vastern Road in Reading, on the south bank of the River Thames.

It sees the number of two-bedroom flats reduced by nine. The development will comprise 70 one-bed, 127 two-bed and 12 three-bed flats.

The changes are due to new fire regulations. Buildings that are a minimum of 18 metres tall must have two sets of stairs to provide easier escape for residents in the event of a fire.

The application can be seen on Reading Borough Council’s planning website, by searching for reference 231673.
