The Football Fun Factory has announced the launch of its newest franchise in Reading,, led by highly experienced coach and football development advocate Themi Kartapanis.

Themi’s coaching journey began over 25 years ago in his home country of South Africa, where he first volunteered at his former primary school while still in high school.

What began as helping out quickly evolved into a life-long passion that has taken him around the world – from South Africa to Spain, the USA, and the UK – working with schools, clubs, academies, and district teams.

Throughout his career, Themi has helped shape the journeys of players who have gone on to reach international and professional levels, including Ajax Amsterdam’s Stanton Lewis, Burnley striker Lyle Forster, and international midfielder Ethan Brookes.

He also mentored Jarryd Phillips, now Head of Sports Performance at MLS side St. Louis CITY. But it was during trips to the UK in his twenties, bringing junior teams to youth tournaments in Liverpool, that Themi truly fell in love with football development on British soil. That same passion now fuels his mission to inspire children and families across Reading.

He said: “Football has the power to connect people, build confidence and create lasting memories.

REVIEW: Making magic with Norden Farm’s The Comet

“We want to give every child the opportunity to fall in love with the game and to feel welcomed, valued, and celebrated in every session.”

With his new Football Fun Factory franchise, Themi aims to create more than just weekly football sessions. His vision is to build a joyful, inclusive space where children of all abilities can have fun, make friends, and grow both on and off the pitch.

But the impact won’t stop there. The programme will also provide meaningful opportunities for aspiring coaches to develop and gain hands-on experience, while creating a positive space for families to connect and support one another.

Themi is especially excited to play a role in the growth of girls’ football, helping more young girls discover the game from the earliest ages.

Former Manchester United player and franchise director Luke Chadwick said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Themi to the Football Fun Factory family.

“His global coaching experience, passion for developing young players, and commitment to creating a truly inclusive and fun environment make him a perfect fit for our ethos.

“We can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll have on children, families, and aspiring coaches across Reading.”
