A cafe in Reading has changed hands, with the new owner hoping to add a bar to sell alcoholic drinks to customers.
The Minas Café first opened in Buckland Road in April 2023, at a unit that was previously home to the Whiteknights estate agents.
The cafe occupies a busy area next to Basingstoke Road, opposite the Morrisons and Aldi supermarket at the Oldfield Retail Park.
It is also situated near other independent businesses, such as Zotta Deli, the New City Fish Bar, Cravings Land and Nosh.
Recently, it has been brought under new ownership, with the hope of adding a bar serving alcoholic drinks to the cafe’s existing coffee and food offer.
Minas Café had built a reputation for hearty breakfasts and Brazilian delicacies, which new owner Michael Parisotto aims to continue.
He said: “The food menu will be all the same.
“Normally, we close at 7pm, but we could make that later.
“We will start off by selling wine, spirits, cocktails and beers. It will be a very simple bar.”
Mr Parisotto took over around eight weeks ago.
To sell alcohol, he requires a premises licence from Reading Borough Council.
He has therefore applied to sell alcohol from 9am to 11pm each day.
A statutory consultation into the application is currently live. You can respond to it by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.
The deadline for representations is Friday, November 21.
The aim is to rename the cafe ‘Mj Butequim’ along with making improvements to the outdoor decking area at a later date.
