READING FC boss Ruben Selles was disappointed by mistakes made in the defensive final third following the Royals’ home loss in League One against Barnsley.
Harvey Knibbs headed Reading in front after four minutes before a penalty allowed Herbie Kane to level for the visitors.
Barnsley won the game late on with an 80th minute goal from Devante Cole and a third in the 87th minute from Max Walters.
The loss leaves Reading in 23rd, level on points with bottom of the table Cheltenham Town.
“We were on top of the game and scored first,” said Selles.
“We had the chance, especially with the header from Tyler Bindon to score a second. The penalty is unfortunate to make it 1-1.
“It was a second action from a corner kick, I think it was very unfortunate and we can discuss the position of the hand but I have no comment about that.
“In the second-half, we made mistakes, especially with the second goal where we should have defended better.
“Then in the moment where we make the substitutions and go for the game, we had a throw-in where we should have had control and let it go to 3-1.
“We need to be able to live for 100 minutes.”
Selles has called on his side to find focus for the full match after they conceded two goals late on to lose the match.
He continued: “It was not late, late like the other ones that were almost at the end of the game.
“It’s more the way that we conceded. When we’re trying to chase the game rather than the minutes of the goals.
“It was a particular action where we should have thrown to the centre back to keep possession of the ball and find our connections. We made a couple of bad decisions and we can do better.”
Selles is hoping to have Jeriel Dorsett, who has impressed in recent performances, back available for Tuesday night’s derby game with Oxford United.
He said: “We hope he will be back for Tuesday. Today was too early for him, but we are lucky the injury is not severe. Hopefully on Tuesday he will be on the pitch.
Looking ahead to the game on Tuesday, Selles continued: “We will see who is fresh to play and see how we can hurt them and beat them.”
