READING FC manager Ruben Selles is still targeting a ‘couple’ of new signings before the transfer window closes next Friday.

The Royals boss has reinforced his squad throughout the summer and has not ruled out some senior figures also departing the club before the deadline.

Selles has made radical changes to the staring line-up with an influx of young players cementing their places with some exceptional performances.

It has been rumoured that players such as Andy Carroll, Nesta Guinness-Walker, Tom Holmes and Dean Bouzanis could leave the club to help raise funds.

When asked about these players, Selles said: “When we make our choice, the boys understand. They are training well, they are professional and are trying to get in the team.

“It’s coming into the last few days of the transfer window and I understand potentially if they find somewhere else to get minutes.

“If they are here then it’s good and they are good for the team and need to fight for their spot.

“If they decide they want to go somewhere else then I think if they (other clubs) come with a proper offer, then we can talk about it.”

Meanwhile, Selles is still hoping to make some more signings to improve the depth of his options.

He continued: “We are still in the market. We know our restrictions but we are still looking for it and hopefully we will get a couple of players.

“They’ve (the young players) been training with us since the very beginning. They are the ones that understand better.

“We had a couple of games here in the pre-season against Championship teams where they showed what they’re capable of and Millwall was the confirmation of what we had seen.

“What I need is players that really want to do things for the team, to be better every day and come with the personality to make things happen.

“That’s what we are showing to the rest of the league. It doesn’t matter how old, they are doing what we want them to do.”
