East Reading Festival is a community-focused festival which will take place in Palmer Park on Sunday, June 23.
There will be a music stage, a spoken-word/poetry stage, a funfair, food from around the world and a wide variety of community, charity and commercial stalls.
They are looking for some physically fit volunteers who can help with setting up and closing down the festival. They are particularly looking for three or four people who can help with assembling and disassembling the spoken-word/poetry stage.
On the day of the festival, the morning set up will be around 10am to noon, and dismantling would be around 5.30pm to 6.30pm. You don’t need to be available for both.
Assisting Berkshire Children to Read (ABC to Read) is an award-winning charity that supports children who are struggling to read by finding, training and supporting volunteers to work with them in primary schools around Berkshire.
They are looking for caring volunteers to become reading helpers, boosting student’s confidence and helping them directly in one-to-one sessions outside of the classroom environment to give students the opportunity to catch up.
They recruit, train and support community volunteers who ideally dedicate two sessions per week (although one session a week will also be considered), during term time only, for at least a year, reading, chatting and playing games.
Their next training session is set for June 4, from 10am to 1pm.
ABC to Read also has an employee volunteering scheme and welcome approaches from companies.
Since 1942, Casualties Union is the Charity whose volunteers spare time to train and practise casualty simulation.
Their aim is “To advance for the public benefit education and training in first aid, the treatment of illness, nursing, rescue, accident prevention, care in the community and similar activities, particularly through casualty simulation.”
They create the illusion of illnesses, faints from heart attacks, or injuries with makeup, in order for First Aiders and Emergency Services to practise responding to realistic-looking but safe situations.
They are currently looking for more members to join them as volunteers.
Ongoing training sessions are held in Reading, fortnightly, 8pm to 10pm.
Attending the training is optional and a full induction will be given.
