Assisting Berkshire Children to Read (ABC to Read) is an award-winning charity that supports children who are struggling to read by finding, training and supporting volunteers to work with them in primary schools around Berkshire.

They are looking for caring volunteers to become reading helpers, boosting student’s confidence and helping them directly in one-to-one sessions outside of the classroom environment to give students the opportunity to catch up.

They recruit, train and support community volunteers who ideally dedicate two sessions per week (although one session a week will also be considered), during term time only, for at least a year, reading, chatting and playing games.

Their next training session is set for March 20, 10am to 1pm.

ABC to Read also have an employee volunteering scheme and welcome approaches from companies.

Reading Climate Action Network is Reading’s main climate action group.

They’re hosted by the Council and run by volunteers. Convening people from the community, business, academia and the public sector to design our town’s response to the climate emergency.

They are preparing now to engage Reading in the design of the town’s climate plan for 2025 – 2030.

They are currently looking for a volunteer to join them for social media support, specifically support with Instagram. They are looking for someone to create reels, stories and posts and also to devise a strategy for tagging and mentions.

Volunteers would be part of the comms team and included in meetings and strategising in order to promote future projects.

Unfortunately, they can’t train anyone in Instagram, they would be looking to you to bring the knowledge and skills.

Time commitment ideally would be 3-4 hours a week but there is flexibility.

Change Grow Live has grown from a tiny volunteer-led Sussex-based organisation, to a nationwide charity that helps tens of thousands of people each day. Their mission is to help people change the direction of their lives, grow as individuals, and live life to its full potential.

They are recruiting Volunteer Counsellors; this will allow Change Grow Live to offer more therapy to the people using their services. You will be enabling people to identify and explore their concerns and assist and empower them to decide upon a course of action.

Volunteers must be emotionally robust, understanding of the importance of boundaries is a must. You will have access to Change Grow Live training in the many areas of drug and alcohol misuse, as well as safeguarding and more.

Take a look at our brand new Reading Volunteer Connect platform for details of these and many more opportunities to volunteer via our website, www.rgneeds.me. Want to get in touch? Drop us an email at volunteering@rva.org.uk or call 0118 937 2273.
