THE UNIVERSITY of Reading is searching for two residents to join its newly-established Community Engagement Steering Group to help improve the way it works in its community.
Chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Robert Van de Noort, the body will feature representatives from the University and its Students’ Union, meeting three times a year to provide strategic oversight of community engagement activity.
This includes developing a series of workstreams in response to feedback on priorities for working in the surrounding area, aligned with the University’s charitable objectives, monitoring the provision and impact of its Community Engagement Action Plan, and gauging communication and visibility.
Professor Van de Noort said: “I strongly encourage members of our local community to join the newly created Community Engagement Steering Group.
“These community representatives will help us ensure a better balance of perspectives and by working in partnership at this strategic level, we will actively listen to the voices of our community and improve outcomes for all.”
Those who are interested in joining should complete and submit an application form before Wednesday, September 6.
Previous experience in steering groups is not required, but strong local connections, knowledge of the area and the issues affecting it, and a passion for improving community engagement with the University are desirable.
