NATIONAL Meadows Day celebrations are coming to Shinfield next Saturday, with an open public event taking place at Langley Mead nature reserve.
National Meadows Day is an initiative aimed at raising awareness of the vital role meadows play in supporting biodiversity, providing habitats for wildlife, and enhancing the natural landscape.
Members of the local community are invited to learn more about the restoration of Langley Mead, which is owned and managed by the University of Reading, to a traditional floodplain meadow.
Visitors will also get the chance to learn more about the wide range of plants and wildlife that can be found on the nature reserve.
Guided walks at the event will cover topics such as exploring the local pond, interactive pollinators, wild flora and fauna, and the history of Langley Mead.
Molli Cleaver, Community Engagement Manager at the University of Reading, said: “Langley Mead is open to the public throughout the year, but National Meadows Day is a wonderful opportunity for families to discover the incredible biodiversity on our doorstep and learn about our work to restore agricultural land back into natural habitats for wildlife.
“We look forward to welcoming lots of people for our guided walks and talks of this area of natural beauty.”
The National Meadows Day celebrations take place at Langley Mead Nature Reserve from 11am-4pm on Saturday, July 5.
