A SHOP in Reading is celebrating a quarter of a century of business in the community this October.
The True Food Co-operative is marking 25 years since it began as the True Food Club in 1999.
Members of the club pooled resources to buy organic foods in bulk, growing to operate more like a market within two years of its founding.
It started to operate mobile markets around Reading from 2004, diversifying its range of goods, until, in 2009, it had outgrown its small warehouse base in south Reading.
New premises were found in Emmer Green, from which the initiative continues to operate.
The club is owned by its members and aims to support ethical and sustainable lifestyles, including with its provision of organic produce, fresh bakery items, and zero-waste refill products.
Cathy Hughes, True Food’s chair, said: “We are so proud to be celebrating 25 years of True Food–thank you to everyone who supports us –we couldn’t have done it without you.”
