AN ESCAPE room in Reading is to close its doors for the final time next month as it announces it is due to close.
TimeTrap, an interactive experience in the town centre, has announced that negotiations to renew its lease have not been fruitful, and that the business will be closing.
The team behind the escape room has said that they currently habe no plans to relocate to a new venue at this time.
It comes after nearly 8 years of the team working on escape room experiences in Reading, with TimeTrap seeing more than 60,000 visitors in its time.
The statement reads: “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the closure of Time Trap.
“After nearly 8 years of running immersive escape room experiences in Reading, our venue will open for its last day on 20th March, 2024.
“Unfortunately we are not able to continue our lease, so we will be leaving 11 Friar Street and, at this point in time, will not be relocating to a new venue.
“We started Time Trap as two 21 year olds, straight out of University, and have poured our whole 20s into creating something that we hoped Reading could be proud of.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank every customer that has visited – whether it was just the once, or if you returned for every new experience, we truly appreciate you.
It continues: “And to all 31 Experience Makers who donned a TimeTrap lab coat over the past 8 years, you are the people that have brought the games to life for over 60,000 players.
Although our TimeTrap venue will be closing, we hope to keep TimeTrap alive through opportunities that come up to run events in the town we’ve both called home since moving here over 11 years ago.
So, if you’re missing that last badge and want to complete the set, make sure to book in soon – we’d love to see you one last time.”
TimeTrap Escape Rooms’ co-founder Andrew Ingle said following the announcement: “It’s been a lot of work, but mostly fun, so it’s going to be sad.
“We have had lots of bookings loads of people sending us very kind comments, which is great.”
