Tilehurst man sentenced for assaulting a police officer

A MAN from Tilehurst has been given a suspended sentence for assaulting a police officer.

Matthew Davies, 29, of The Ridings, Tilehurst, pleaded guilty to the offence at Reading Magistrates Court on Friday, February 25.

Davies was given a six week prison sentence, suspended for six months.

Police reported that the offence took place on Thursday, February 24, when Davies kicked a police officer in the shoulder.

Sergeant John Heatley, based at Newbury police station, said:“Being assaulted is not and should never be regarded as ‘part of the job’.

“We will always look to prosecute anyone who assaults an emergency worker.”
