FANS of the much-loved children’s book The Museum of Marvellous Things can enjoy an Easter treat this week, thanks to Practically Perfect Pictures’ new show, coming to the Corn Exchange on Thursday, 11 April.

The Newbury theatre will be hosting the fun-filled family show for one night only. It promises a ‘captivating and enchanting spectacle for the whole family’, full of original live music, giant puppets, show-stopping costumes, magical effects and interactive storytelling, offering

Based on the book by Kristina Stephenson, the bestselling author and illustrator of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks, Practically Perfect Pictures has brought The Museum of Marvellous Things to life with a show that encourages audiences, young and old alike, to share the power of imagination and creativity through stories, performance, music and art.

Ms Stephenson has adapted her story for the stage, as well as directing and producing the show.

“Think of a place that is powered by magic – the magic of a child’s imagination,” she says.

“Picture all the incredible creatures and amazing objects that could be inside it. Wonderful isn’t it? Welcome to The Museum of Marvellous Things’. Now consider what would happen if children stopped using their imaginations and the magic ran out.”

The story was written in 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, and tells the story of the sensible and serious young Norbert Norris, who must learn to use his imagination.

Created amidst the backdrop of a global pandemic, the production has not been without its challenges, with serious illness threatening its run, explains Ms Stephenson: “Thanks to a team of incredible, talented and dedicated people, life imitated art and something wonderful happened.

“We managed to make the impossible happen and adapt The Museum of Marvellous Things into a fully interactive, actor-musician, musical stage show.

“Children are at the heart of the show, with a very simple premise: they must save the museum by making and believing in magic. It’s as simple and wonderful as that.”

The Museum of Marvellous Things will be at the Corn Exchange Newbury on Thursday 11 April. Tickets cost £15.25 and £12.25 for under-18s (including booking fees).

Suitable for ages 3+.

There will be a meet and greet at the end of the show.

To book or for more information visit the Corn Exchange website or call the Box Office on 01635 522733.
