TWO CATS are seeking a new owner who can care for them, including help with an eye condition they share.

Wolfie, two years old, and Yugi, six months old, were part of a multi-cat household, but their owner became unable to cope with their care.

When they arrived at Cats Protection’s Newbury adoption centre, both cats were affected by a condition called “dry eye,” caused by inadequate production of tears.

It is likely that this is the result of a virus picked up by the pets while they were young and which went untreated.

This means that the otherwise healthy cats need a simple application of a small dose of eye gel once each in the morning and before bed at night, which helps combat infections and keep them comfortable.

Deputy manager Jenni Warrior says: “Yugi and Wolfie are a super pair of cats– they play happily together and enjoy tumbling about their pen here at the centre.

“Yugi, although younger, is the more confident of the two and likes to encourage Wolfie and occasionally lead him into joyful mischief.”

“Wolfie has a more relaxed side and will happily sit on your lap while his brother continues to explore the world around him– they both love to be stroked and a fishing rod toy is their favourite which they take turns to run after and pounce on.”

Jenni urges would-be owners not to be put off by the cats’ eye condition and simple care needs.

“They are such fun to have in care and although we try to ensure the centre feels like home, it really is no substitute for the real thing.

“We are keen to find a loving new owner who is not worried by their need for eye drops, we can give all the training you might need.

“Plus Yugi and Wolfie tolerate the treatment very well, although Yugi would always prefer to be playing rather than pausing for drops!”

Cats Protection also uploaded a video of the cats to Youtube, seeking to find a home that could care for both of them together.
