PUMPKINS were picked from the patch, carved and then lit up as the Ding marked Hallowe’en and half-term.
On Saturday, the town held a number of special events to herald the spooky season.
Broad St Mall became Spook St Mall for the day, offering some scary face painting for younger visitors, a chance to have a creepy caricature, and go one with a pumpkin.
There was also a chance to take a spooky selfie in its pumpkin patch.
One of its new tenants, the Reading Biscuit Factory, held some pumpkin carving sessions across the weekend.
It also screened some appropriate films including the classic family-friendly Hocus Pocus.
In Caversham Court Gardens, a Hallowe’en trail was set up for people to explore during daylight hours.
A number of displays were set up and were a popular attraction.
It was part of the annual Caversham Hallowe’en Hunt, which saw homes decorate with seasonal items, including pumpkins and scarecrows.
Organised by the Warren and District Residents Association, participants could buy a map and explore the homes taking part.
And the group organised a popular Hallowe’en costume parade, which took place in Mapledurham Playing Fields Pavilion.
There were prizes for the best under fives, under 10s, under 16s, 16 and over, and pet or human of any age.
Special awards were presented for the most scary, most beautiful, most creative, and best overall.
