Shinfield Cricket Club has drawn the curtain on another successful junior season, with achievements on and off the pitch that show how the game continues to flourish in the community.

This summer the club introduced the ECB’s All Stars Cricket programme for under-6 boys and girls. The sessions were packed with energy as the youngest players took their first steps into the sport. Coordinator Marlena Gandhok said the response was overwhelming.

“The excitement of these budding cricketers, along with the involvement of their parents, has been so encouraging and reassuring for the future of this beautiful game,” she said.

“It was a shame we had to stop registrations when we reached capacity, but it shows just how much interest there is.”

On the field, there were many memorable moments for the under 9 to 15 age group. The under-11s were the standout story, winning their league. Coach Rippont Pawa praised the group’s progress.

“We have come a long way with this bunch,” he said.

“Many started years ago through All Stars and Mini Shin, and now they are champions. Hopefully, they will carry on and one day represent our adult teams.”

The club also hosted special masterclass sessions run by elite players, including former India Test star and current Test Match Special commentator Deep Das Gupta. He was struck by the commitment and attitude of Shinfield’s youngsters.

“It is wonderful to see so much enthusiasm for the game,” he said. “I am more than happy to share my knowledge and experience to help the club’s colts section grow.” Das also promised to align his academy with the club’s aspiration to build a strong youth pool for the club and local community.

Club chairman Dave Hare reflected proudly on the wider picture. “It amazes me how every year the club continues to grow and attract interest from across the community,” he said.

Although the summer season has now finished, Shinfield are already looking ahead. The club has announced its autumn programme, starting on 5th October, with full details available on the website.
