Reading FC manager Ruben Selles reflected after the Royals picked up their first away victory of the season in League One.
It came against Exeter City courtesy of goals from Jayden Wareham and Michael Craig which puts Selles’ team just outside of the play-off places.
“I thought it was a very good game, against a really good opponent – who are well coached and have very good players,” said Selles.
“I think we played a fantastic first half, and the team did absolutely everything we planned. The energy – the attitude – we were totally front footed.
“In the second half, the game became alive, and it was a much more difficult game.
“They scored a goal which obviously stressed us a little bit, but then I think the substitutions really helped us – re-energised us and helped us to get the three points. So, I’m very happy today, I think the performance was there and we showed the attitude and the character of this team on the pitch.”
“I’m not so much worried about whether we get the points at home or away. I think we’ve had some good games.
“After the last match, we spoke afterwards on the outside but also internally that if we want to get some points here, we need to make a really good performance – and that’s what we did.
“The important thing is that we continue getting points for us – we know our target, we know where we are, but at the same time we know we can become a really competitive team.”
Selles also spoke on Wareham, who scored his first league goal for the club on his first start of the campaign.
He continued: “I think it’s very important, especially for a striker! After having Sam (Smith) in the position, Jayden has shown he can start for us and do great things – so it’s going to be great competition between those two. But I’m really happy that Jayden is stepping up and showing what a good player he is.”
