A ROTARY club partnership in Reading has helped a care home by providing new equipment to bolster support for residents with dementia.
The Rotary Club of Pangbourne teamed up with the Rotary Club of Reading Abbey to present Braeburn Lodge Care Home, with a new toolkit to help those among their residents living with Dementia.
They supplied a multi-sensory toolkit, initially conceptualised by Emeritus Professor Rachel McCrindle and Dr Esther Olorunda as part of a PhD at the University of Reading.
This toolkit was then developed in conjunction with experts in dementia and brings together different aspects of dementia therapy into a portable format.
It can then be used by caregivers, care teams, and activity coordinators to engage and stimulate people living with dementia, which helps them deal with the condition.
The Dementia toolkit is now being used in a range of care environments in and around Reading.
Following the success of the prototype evaluation in a number of care homes, the Rotary Club of Pangbourne raised the funds to enable Braeburn Lodge Care Home to benefit from this innovative toolkit.
