The Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh hosted its annual charity golf day at Sonning Golf Club on Thursday, July 4, achieving a record turnout with 26 teams and over 100 players.
The event enjoyed excellent golfing weather and an impeccably maintained course, contributing to a memorable day of golf.
The team event saw spirited competition, culminating in victory for ‘The Guildford Four,’ captained by Ian Heighes.
The day’s success extended into the evening with a dinner compered by golfing comedian Aaron James, who also conducted a charity auction featuring items donated by local golf clubs and businesses.
The auction and other fundraising activities raised over £8,000 for Rotary-supported charities.
The majority of these funds will benefit Rotary’s Community Food Aid and children’s programmes, which supports local food banks, churches, families, and various local children’s charities. Since the pandemic, the club has donated over £30,000 to these vital causes.
The event’s success was bolstered by generous sponsorship from Financial Planning Partners (FPP).
Scott Trathen, Joint President of the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh, said: “It was a superb way to raise money for our programme. Everyone enjoyed a great day and contributed generously to all the fundraising activities. We are grateful for the support of so many local businesses and especially Sonning Golf Club.”
