A READING charity has taken a stand against Suella Braverman’s plans to fine organisations who provide tents to the homeless.
Refugee Support Group, who have helped refugees across Berkshire since 1994, said it will continue to provide tents to those who need them despite the Home Secretary announcing her commitment to cracking down on rough sleepers.
A spokesperson for RSG said: “Refugee Support Group has given out many sleeping bags. Refugees now face homelessness as the Home Office closes down hotels. Suella Braverman wants to fine us, [that is] fine by us – we will not stop helping people.”
Mrs Braverman took to X, formerly Twitter, earlier this week and said that the UK ‘cannot allow our streets to be taken over by rows of tents’ occupied by people she deemed to sleep rough ‘as a lifestyle choice’.
RSG said that festi-tents cost £30 and welcomes any donations to help provide more to those in need.
