A READING woman is set to climb a London landmark to raise funds for a Berkshire charity.

Mary King is to climb the O2 in support of the Berkshire Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Therapy Centre next week.

Mary, who has MS herself, will be climbing the building while in her wheelchair to raise money and give back to the centre which she said had provided “invaluable” support.

She lives in Reading, where the centre is also based, and has been attending it for more than 20 years.

The centre provides specialist therapy such as physiotherapy and oxygen therapy, as well as counselling, support, signposting, social events, and classes.

Mary’s challenge has already succeeded its target of £1,500, having raised more than £1,600.

Mary said: “I find their support invaluable–from the minute you enter the building the volunteers are incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the support of staff has really helped me manage the symptoms of my MS over the past two decades.

“I am attempting this challenge to raise much needed funds as a thank you to the fantastic people at the Centre for always creating a welcoming environment, always offering a cup of tea, and building a community to help people diagnosed with this condition to never feel alone.

“I’m not quite sure what to expect from the O2 climb so I’m a bit nervous but I’m looking forward to the challenge”

Tamzin Cordery, Community and Events Fundraiser at the Centre, said:“We are so grateful

to Mary for taking on this challenge to raise funds for us–we hope she has a wonderful day.

We rely on our fantastic supporters to be able to keep our services going and we are always amazed by all their wonderful fundraising ideas.”
