STUDENTS from Reading University will make history as they compete in the finals of University Challenge.
It will be the first time Reading University has ever reached the final of the quiz show.
The team beat the University of Edinburgh by 30 points in the semi-finals, which was also the their first semi-final.
Team members Kira Bishop, Sylvian Jesudoss, and Margaret Ounsley, captained by Michael Hutchinson, will play off against Imperial College London for the series title.
Mr Hutchinson said that the quiz show was an: “Absolute institution.”
“There’d been a big break because of covid before that time so we all felt a little bit off balance.
“So we actually spent a solid day just doing buzzer practise before the next game.”
Reading University has said that it will show the final again on screens in venues on campus to celebrate the team’s success.
Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Reading University’s deputy vice-chancellor, said “We are immensely proud of our team for their stunning run on University Challenge.
“They have made history by reaching the final, but best of all they have done so by demonstrating Reading values of partnership, mutual respect and support, and passion for their subjects.”
Reading lost to Imperial College London in a quarter final, also by only 30 points.
The final airs on Monday, April 4, on BBC Two at 8:30pm.
