A Reading-based technology professional has made a career change after joining an upskilling and training company in a new role.
Tom Sammon has started the year by joining Step8Up Academy as an apprentice in sales and business development, after previously working with the organisation as a teaching assistant.
Mr Sammon, who has a degree in Computer Science, initially pursued a career in software engineering before deciding to move into a business-facing role within the tech sector.
In his new position, he will support the company’s sales and growth activity, help develop relationships with local businesses and assist learners in securing job placements.
Speaking about the move, Mr Sammon said the role allowed him to remain in the technology sector while developing new skills.
“It feels like a great fit for me,” he said. “I’m staying within the industry I know and love, but taking a new direction. I’ve gained a lot of experience through my freelance and teaching work, and I’m now learning a completely different side of the business.”
Step8Up Academy’s chief executive, Jeev Sahoo, said the company was committed to developing emerging talent.
“We believe in investing in people with potential and giving them real responsibility,” he said. “Welcoming Tom has been a great way to start the year.”
Step8Up Academy provides training and consultancy services focused on areas including IT, coding, management and professional skills, working with both individuals and businesses.
