READING in Bloom is once again seeking submissions as it marks five decades of celebrating the borough’s best bouquets, greatest gardens, and outstanding allotments.

The local In Bloom competition invites residents from across the borough to nominate their best floral and botanical displays, including from residential gardens, school and pub displays, community gardens, and commercial spaces.

The competition showcases gardening skills while championing the environment and supporting eco-systems in the local area.

This year’s competition will culminate in a glitzy award ceremony at the Hilton Hotel in October.

It is sponsored this year by AB Walker, Cherubs, Cream, Haslams, Hilton Reading, Reading’s Economic and Destination Agency, The Oracle, Top Cars, and the Reading Business Improvement Districts.

Jeanette Skeats, Chairman at Reading In Bloom, said: “During the Summer our committee members will be out and about, judging all of the competition entries.

“This will result in a prestigious award ceremony that will take place at the Hilton Reading Hotel, during the month of October.

“In order for us to carry out a successful competition, we rely solely on the generosity and the goodwill of those who are kind enough to sponsor us. On behalf of Reading In Bloom, I thank all sponsors for their support.

We believe Reading in Bloom brings the community together and showcases all of what Reading has to offer.

“So to all those who take the time to enter the competition, we thank you for your participation over the last 50 Years and for the future years to come.

“We look forward to receiving your entries for this year’s local competition and wish you all the very best of luck.”

Reading in Bloom is seeking submissions from residential homes, including front gardens, container gardens, hanging baskets, balconies, and window boxes; schools, including eco-focused and forest schools and displays; allotments, including eco-focused and community spaces; pubs and restaurants; wellbeing gardens; commercial spaces; and community gardens.

Nominations close on Tuesday, July 1.
