READING residents are among the best in the country when it comes to knowing the right lines to flirt.

A new survey has found that 71% of people responding use a pick-up line, be it a playful quip or a witty one-liner, to start a conversation when out and about.

The town came fifth in a survey of cities across the UK. Heading the survey was Edinburgh, where eight out of 10 people responding said they regularly rely on chat-up lines to get a conversation started.

Next was Southampton and Portsmouth, then Sheffield, Leicester.

The research was conducted by BestCasinoSites.net, and it says that among the findings, 14% would use AI such as ChatGPT to create pick-up lines, and more women than men have a go-to bon mot to start a conversation.

Among them are lines such as, ‘Aside from being sexy, what do you do for a living?’ and ‘Are you from Tennessee? Because you’re the only 10 I see’.

The firm surveyed 3,000 British residents to collect the data, but there is no guarantee that the chat-up lines will work when deployed on a festive night out.
