A READING golfer has raised more than £2,000 for charity with a mammoth golf challenge.
Jason MacBeth, a member at The Caversham, Home of Reading Golf Club, has raised funds for Reading Family Aid (RFA) as part of the club’s year-long fundraising efforts.
RFA was named as the captain’s charity of the year, and Mr MacBeth undertook 100 holes of golf in a match-play marathon.
Mr MacBeth said following the event: “It’s something I’ve done every year for about 6 or 7 years, and now I feel like I have to do something.
“Each year the club’s captain nominates a charity, and we raise funds for them throughout the year, and it’s usually something close to the members at the club.
“I normally do four rounds, 72 holes, in aid of the captain’s charity for the year, but I wanted to up the ante this time.”
He said that this year’s event: “gave me free reign of the course, but it was so tiring, especially as I began at 4.15am and didn’t finish until 10pm.
“You don’t really stop, so the support from those who came around with me was just fantastic, including the Ladies’ captain, Hilary, and her husband, and my dad also came to support me for the last few rounds.”
While they’re still counting the amount raised, He explained: “It’s around the £2,500 mark, which is just fantastic
“No doubt I’ll be doing it all over again next year!”
Members at The Caversham, Home of Reading Golf Club, will continue to raise funds for Reading Family Aid throughout the rest of the year.
